Samsung says it will better align smartphone socs with Galaxy phones

Samsung says it will better align its socs with its Galaxy smartphones in the future. Until now, the manufacturer has also developed its socs with the intention that other manufacturers can use them, but that is happening slowly.

That’s why Samsung is now internally promising a system-on-a-chip that it’s only developing with Galaxy devices in mind, reports ITHome. By better tuning the soc to the phone, the throttling of smartphones would be less or no longer necessary.

Samsung was discredited this winter because of its Game Optimizing Service, or GOS. This is necessary, because otherwise the soc will become so hot that the cooling of the telephone can no longer dissipate the heat and the battery will drain too quickly. GOS limits not only the performance of games, but also apps and browsers. In addition to many of Samsung’s own apps, this also happens with thousands of other apps. Samsung said nothing about that. South Korea’s market regulator has since launched an investigation into whether the manufacturer was exaggerating the performance of its phones.

It is unknown how Samsung plans to better tailor the soc to Galaxy devices to minimize or prevent throttling in the future. It appears that the controversy has not hindered deliveries of the Galaxy S22 phones. Samsung predicts a record quarter, with an operating profit half higher than last year. Business newspaper Financial Times baby that it is mainly due to strong deliveries of components, but also because Samsung supplies twenty percent more of the S22 than of the S21 series last year.
