Samsung has announced the compact system camera NX Mini. With its thickness of 22.5 mm and weight of 158 grams, the camera is easy to carry and Samsung is targeting consumers who take a lot of photos, no matter where they are.
The NX Mini has a 1″ sensor, just like the Sony RX100, for example, but the Samsung has a capacity of 20.5 megapixels. The minimum shutter speed is 1/16,000 and continuous shooting is possible at 6fps. The most important features, however, are the dimensions. of 22.5×61.9×110.4mm and the weight of 158 grams for the body, 196 grams including battery.
There’s a 3″ LCD with 320×480 pixel resolution that can be flipped for selfies. Wi-Fi-n and NFC support, combined with Tag & Go, allows users to transfer images directly to NFC-enabled smartphones and tablets and the camera can also be operated with external mobile devices.
Samsung bundles the camera with Adobe Lightroom 5 and for the time being combines the device with three lenses: the thin NX-M 9mm F3.5 ED, the micro-compact zoom lens NX-M 9-27mm F3.5-5.6 ED OIS and the NX- M 17mm F1.8 OIS. If you want to use the device with fifteen other NX lenses, you will have to purchase an extra adapter.
In the US, the NX Mini will be released in April and in combination with the 17mm lens, the NX Mini will cost $450 there, while a bundle with the zoom lens will cost $550. It is not known when the camera will be released in the Benelux and what it will cost in euros.
