Microsoft is reportedly codenamed Sun Valley 2 internally for the upcoming major update to Windows 11, and the final build is expected to be ready by summer next year. The update will get features that missed this year’s release deadline.
Mainline development of Windows 11 22H2 should be completed by May 2022 and the final build will follow in the summer, Windows Central has learned from its sources familiar with Windows development. The release of the feature update will follow in the second half of 2022 and Windows 11 will receive a major update every year after that, Microsoft announced earlier.
According to Windows Central, this is a release that should supplement the current operating system with features that were not yet ready for the OS this year. For example, the software would get a more extensive dark mode, which is also applied to older parts of Windows 11. The functions of the taskbar and widget panel are also expanded. For example, there will be support for widgets from third parties.
Codenamed Sun Valley 2 would be linked to Threshold 2, or Windows 10 build version 1511. That was the first major update to Windows 10 in 2015, and it also contained parts that did not make it to the release of the OS.
Furthermore, Neowin reports that Microsoft will have a strong focus on Windows on ARM in 2022. For example, a devkit with a Qualcomm 8cx Gen 3 should be released in the spring.
