Rockstar has acquired Dhruva Interactive from Starbreeze for $7.9 million. Starbreeze, which is in financial trouble, is selling studios and licenses to keep it afloat.

Rockstar is acquiring the Indian game studio from Starbreeze, which bought the studio in December 2017 for approximately $8.5 million. The deal will close sometime in the first half of this year. The studio will continue with its current projects and will co-exist with the existing Rockstar branch in Bangalore.

Founded in 1997, Dhruva Interactive is one of the largest Indian game studios with 300 employees. The studio has collaborated with Starbreeze on The Walking Dead and Payday. The studio also worked on games such as Forza Horizon 3, Halo 5, Quantum Break and Sea of Thieves.

Starbreeze is going through a rough patch. Last weekend the news appeared that the studio would not last a year with the current price. A month earlier, Starbreeze sold the publishing rights to its new strategy game 10 Crowns. An investigation into the publisher was also launched at the end of 2018 for insider trading.
