Renewed Dixons will only rent out devices

The Dixons website has resurfaced after being closed for several weeks. The webshop has adapted its formula and now no longer sells devices, but rents them out. According to the company, more and more people want to rent electronics.

Dixons not only rents out washing machines and refrigerators, but also TVs, computers, tablets and monitors. For an LG 55EG910V TV with OLED screen, 65 euros per month must be paid, an LG OLED65E6V costs 187 euros per month. As far as computers and tablets are concerned, Dixons currently rents electronics from Apple, Asus and HP. A Mac mini can be rented for 33.95 euros, an iPad Air 2 16GB for 31.50 euros. Laptops from Asus and HP can be rented for amounts between 35 and 45 euros, MacBooks are more expensive.

Short-term rental is not possible for most products. Dixons offers three subscription types: Comfort for 2, 3 or 5 years of TV and laptop rental, Flexible for 3 years of TV and laptop rental and Short rental, which makes it possible to rent a few products for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months.

“More and more people want to rent instead of buy,” says Dixons. “They love their freedom, they hate fuss, care less about possessions or they just want the latest of the latest.” In addition, the former retail chain points out the benefits for the environment.

Dixons closed its 33 remaining stores early this year after Relevant Holdings took over the chain from the bankrupt BAS Group on December 31, 2015. The formula continued online, but in recent weeks the website was closed for a ‘renovation’.
