Sony has presented three forms of subscription service PlayStation Plus. The subscription comes in three variants: Essential, Extra and Premium, which cost 8.99, 13.99 and 16.99 euros. The Extra Pack allows players to download 400 PS4 and PS5 games.
The new subscriptions can be used from June, says Sony. The company will keep PlayStation Plus as it exists today, but rename it to PlayStation plus Essential. Players will still receive two free games per month, cloud storage for save games and online multiplayer. The price of that subscription also remains the same at 8.99 euros.
In addition, two new subscriptions will be available: PlayStation plus Extra and Plus Premium. Extra allows players to download games. You can do that from a selection of 400 PS4 and PS5 games, the company says. Sony has not yet announced which games are included, but is talking about a few relatively recent games. In any case, the company mentions Death Stranding, God of War, Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11 and Returnal. The Extra subscription costs 13.99 euros per month or 100 euros per year.
A PS Plus Premium subscription will also be available for 16.99 euros per month or 119.99 per year. This will also allow players to stream 340 games for the PlayStation 3. In addition, a ‘catalogue of beloved classics’ will be available for both streaming and downloads of games for the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP. It is also possible to play trial versions to see if a game meets the expectations of players.
The existing PlayStation Now package will disappear. Users are automatically transferred to a Premium subscription at no additional cost.
It has been known for some time that Sony is working on a subscription model for the PlayStation. Details about it were released earlier this week. The European prices were not yet known at that time. With the subscription, Sony hopes to make a counterpart to Microsoft’s Game Pass for the Xbox.
