A photo has surfaced online that may show two dual camera modules of the Sony Xperia XZ3 smartphone. That would indicate that the smartphone will get a dual front camera, something that Sony smartphones have not had until now.

The photo shows the components side by side, with Japanese text. According to SumahoInfo, it is in any case about parts of an upcoming Xperia smartphone and it seems that it will be the Xperia XZ3, which should follow the XZ2 released this spring. It has a single front camera and a single rear camera. The XZ2 Premium, which will be released at the end of this month, does have a dual camera on the back.

It is unknown what Sony would use the dual front camera for. At the back of the XZ2 Premium is a secondary camera with the same focal length, but without a color filter. Sony says it will merge images from the monochrome sensor and the color sensor, something that Huawei has also been doing for several years.

SumahoInfo is known for reliable information about unannounced Sony products. The site also recently published photos of what the XZ3 would look like from the back.
