ChatGPT creator OpenAI has released an official app of the chatbot on iOS. The app is free to use and includes integration with the speech recognition software Whisper for voice input.

The chat history within ChatGPT is synchronized between all devices where the user is logged in. ChatGPT Plus subscription users also have access to reduced response times, the more advanced GPT-4 language model, and early access to new features through the app.

There are currently several unofficial ChatGPT apps from third-party developers available in the app stores for iPhones and Android devices. Some offer similar functionalities, but there are also warned about rogue apps.

For now, OpenAI’s official ChatGPT app is only available to iPhone and iPad users in the United States. Other countries follow ‘in the coming weeks‘. OpenAI is also working on an Android version of the ChatGPT app, which should be released “soon”. Before the app is available in Europe, smartphone users can also get started with ChatGPT in the browser.
