Opel has unveiled the sixth generation of the Corsa and this model now also comes in an all-electric version: the Corsa-e. This electric car will have a 50 kWh battery.

Opel reports that the Corsa-e on a charge of the 50 kWh battery achieves a range of 330 km according to the wltp standard. In eco mode, where responsiveness to accelerator pedal input and air conditioning performance are reduced, this range should increase by 40 percent. At least that is what various websites report based on statements from Vauxhall, the sister company that releases Opel cars in the United Kingdom.

The manufacturer says that it gives an eight-year manufacturer’s warranty on the battery and that the cells can be charged to eighty percent in thirty minutes via a fast charger, although Opel does not provide any further information. The electrified version of the Corsa has an electric motor that gives the car a power of 136 hp and a torque of 260 Nm. This makes the sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds, although Opel mentions that these are provisional figures.

Opel’s Corsa-e gets headlamps with sixteen LED units that can be controlled separately from each other. In addition, a front camera is integrated that registers the traffic situation, so that the beam of the headlights is adjusted accordingly. The camera also recognizes traffic and matrix signs and the maximum speed is shown on the digital instrument panel on this basis.

The Opel Corsa-e has quite a few similarities with the previously introduced Peugeot e-208. This is partly because both cars are built on the same platform: the Common Modular Platform. Opel and Vauxhall are also owned by Groupe PSA, the parent company of Peugeot and Citroën. Like the Corsa-e, the e-208 has a 50 kWh battery, a comparable range of 340 km and the same power of 136 hp.

The price of the electric Opel is still unknown, although Peugeot recently announced the prices of the e-208. The cheapest version will cost 36,250 euros, while the GT equipment version will be almost 3000 euros more expensive. Presumably, the prices of the Opel Corsa-e will be close to this. The Opel Corsa-e will be delivered to customers in the first half of next year, a spokesperson said.
