The Public Prosecution Service is investigating ethical hacker Victor Gevers, who allegedly entered Donald Trump’s Twitter account last month. Gevers has been questioned by the police. He is not a suspect, but the Public Prosecution Service wants to investigate whether something criminal has happened.

The OM confirms that it is investigating the whitehat hacker Gevers. In the first place, the investigation checks whether the ‘hack’ has taken place, but also whether this is punishable. Logging into other persons’ accounts without permission is a criminal offense, even if the password is known or can be guessed. However, there are exceptions to that rule, for example to demonstrate poor security as an ethical hacker. It is also not the first time that Gevers has been questioned by the police for his work. “For example when it comes to threats from the US and China”, he tells us. “The studies that I sometimes share can be politically sensitive.”

Gevers has been questioned by the High Tech Crime Team of the police. He volunteered to take part in the witness hearing, he says. “There is also a lot at stake. Coordinated vulnerability disclosure is a serious matter and it will always have to be verifiable that the actions have been carried out with the best intentions that serve a social interest,” he says. Gevers is currently not a suspect, says the OM.

Victor Gevers is an ethical hacker who said he managed to break into the account of US President Donald Trump last month . He would have done that by maga2020!simply guessing the password . Gevers says that he occasionally tries to test the security of such accounts and actually ended up in the account by accident. While he has not yet provided proof of getting into the account, Gevers has a long track record as an ethical hacker. He passed his findings on to the American Secret Service, which is said to have plugged the ‘leak’.
