Nvidia has published a teaser video in which Nvidia hints at the introduction of a GeForce video card called RTX 2080. This name was already mentioned in a previous rumor and Nvidia gives several hints that point to the arrival of the RTX 2080.
The video briefly shows images of what may be Nvidia’s new GPU, but no direct conclusions can be drawn from that. What seems to be becoming somewhat concrete is the name of the new high-end consumer video card that Nvidia will probably present at the upcoming Gamescom fair; over the course of the video, Nvidia gives all kinds of hints that point to the name RTX 2080.
For example, the username RoyTeX is used, with which Nvidia may hint at the name RTX. Also, the numbers 2, 0, 8, 0 are passed in this order. In addition, the name Not_11 is visible, with which the manufacturer may want to make it clear that the 11 series is not used as an indication with the new series of video cards. The name Mac-20 is also used, which may indicate the use of the 20 series. Furthermore, the name AlanaT passes by, which probably indicates Alan Turing and therefore the Turing architecture.
Recently there was already a rumor coming from AdoredTV. This YouTube channel has already claimed that Nvidia’s upcoming Geforce card will be called RTX 2080. According to information from a video on this YouTube channel, the RTX 2080 is said to be eight percent faster than the current Geforce GTX 1080 Ti and fifty percent faster than the GTX 1080. According to another, questionable, rumor, the design of the upcoming Geforce card will be two fans.
On Tuesday, Nvidia announced the Turing architecture for GPUs on Siggraph. The manufacturer has announced the arrival of several video cards, although these are business models where Nvidia emphasizes ray tracing. This is a technique in which light rays are radiated from the position of the camera in different directions. How these light rays then reflect is calculated by means of specialized RT cores based on the color and properties of the material.
