Xbox studio Ninja Theory details the progress of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II in a video. Among other things, the developer has shot a lot in Iceland to simulate a realistic landscape. Gameplay is not yet available.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II was announced in late 2019, but no new trailer or gameplay reveals Ninja Theory yet. In a video, founder Tameem Antoniades tells us that a significant part of the game is now being worked on and after that the actual production can begin. According to Antoniades, the first part is a very special game for the studio and the goal is to make the sequel ‘extra special’. The studio is making it difficult for itself, according to the CEO.

The game is set in Iceland in the ninth century and the team has been to Iceland a lot to capture images and sound. This is combined with satellite data to create a realistic environment. The studio works together with Epic Games, which is the supplier of Unreal Engine 5, with which the game is made.

Antoniades also says that the fights will become more realistic and violent in the new game. For this, actress Melina Juergens, who plays the main character Senua, trained for two years. According to the makers, the teaser video gives a look at what the studio has been working on lately.

The first game, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, is inspired by Norse mythology and Celtic culture. The game is particularly special because of the main character Senua, who suffers from psychosis. The studio collaborated with mental health specialists, patients and neuroscientists to render that realistic. It is not yet known whether the new game will also contain such themes.
