Netflix has announced that the second season of The Witcher will be released on December 17. The entire ten-episode season will then be available directly via the streaming service. Season 2 is based in part on The Witcher book Blood of Elves.
The two main characters, Geralt of Rivia and Ciri, are once again played by Henry Cavill and Freya Allan respectively. Season 2 picks up where the previous season left off, after the two reunited. The streaming service announces the release date just before the first official WitcherCon kicks off. More The Witcher-related information will probably be announced there.
In the fall of 2019, the release date of The Witcher season 2 was already announced by the official Twitter account of Netflix, apparently by accident. The production process, on the other hand, was much delayed by the corona pandemic, although the final release date is apparently not affected. The first season of Netflix’s The Witcher was released in December 2019 and became the streaming service’s second most-watched Netflix Original TV series ever with 76 million viewers in its first month.
In the meantime, several other projects centered around the character from Andrzej Sapkowski’s Polish book series were announced, including a prequel series by Netflix and a The Witcher smartphone game by CD Projekt Red.
