Certain LG TVs from 2021 will receive an Nvidia GeForce NOW app from this week, with which the game streaming service can be used on the TVs. The app is in beta and supports up to 1080p and 60fps.

The app will be released this week in the LG Content Store on “select” models within the 4K OLED, QNED Mini LED and NanoCell TV series, in 80 countries worldwide. LG says it will later share a complete list of compatible TVs. It’s not clear whether older TVs, or TVs from other brands that use LG’s webOS, will also get the game streaming app.

While the app is in beta, LG also says that the app is fully functional and there are no restrictions on “features or services.” At the same time, the app is limited to 1080p and 60fps; this is lower than possible on other hardware. For example, the PC version can display up to 1440p and 120fps; the Shield TV goes up to 4K.

LG announced the arrival of Nvidia’s GeForce NOW service earlier this year. It is the first time that the app for a specific television operating system of a brand appears. There is now also an Android TV version that, for example, allows certain Sony TVs to use the app. In addition, the app can only be used with external devices on TVs. The streaming service is free to use for an hour per session; If you want to continue playing on a session for longer, you have to take out a subscription for ten euros per month. The streaming service now has 14 million subscribers.
