Apple may come next year with iPhones with a Touch ID sensor under the screen. Analyst Ming-chi Kuo reports this in his most recent report. In addition, Apple would release a new iPhone SE next year, which would include a 5G modem.

Kuo writes that Apple will come with four new iPhones in 2022, 9to5Mac also writes. The company would come with regular 6.1 “and 6.7″ variants, and also introduce two Pro models with the same screen sizes. With that, the tech giant would not release a Mini variant next year. According to Kuo, the price of the regular 6.7” variant would be “below $900” in the US, excluding VAT. To illustrate: the iPhone 12 Pro Max costs USD 1099 in the United States.

Apple would provide the iPhones with some upgrades in 2022, the analyst reports. Kuo speaks of ‘the possibility of a fingerprint scanner under the screen’. Apple would use its own technologies for this. Rumors have been circulating for some time about an iPhone with a Touch ID sensor under the screen. For example, previous rumors suggested that this might already be introduced in the iPhone 13, but according to Kuo this does not seem to be the case. Furthermore, the ultra-wide-angle camera would be upgraded with a 48-megapixel sensor.

The tech giant is also said to be working on a new iPhone SE. According to Kuo, that smartphone will appear in the first half of 2022, MacRumors also writes. The analyst reports that Apple wants to position that smartphone as ‘the cheapest 5G iPhone ever’. Currently that is the iPhone 12 Mini, with a suggested retail price from 812.10 euros. The current iPhone SE has a suggested retail price from 492.10 euros. Kuo writes that the design of the next SE will be similar to the current model. The upcoming device would therefore once again resemble the iPhone 8.
