Publisher Konami has begun the incremental shutdown of the servers for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Online for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The shutdown of the online services will not be fully completed until next year.

The first phase means that making in-game purchases in both games will no longer work. Then, starting November 30, DLC will no longer be available for purchase for Metal Gear Online. Then on March 1, next year, the distribution of the games will end, which means that the titles will no longer be available in digital stores. From May 31, 2022, the services will be completely closed.

Konami emphasizes that the online services will disappear in phases and that the game will still remain playable offline. Metal Gear Online is one of two multiplayer modes available for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This online component was not available immediately upon the release of the main game and was added later.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was released on September 1, 2015. The offline mode follows the story of Big Boss, better known as Naked Snake. The story is set after the events of MGS V: Ground Zeroes. He must build a new army and base to take on the group that attacked his base at the end of Ground Zeroes. The characteristic tactical espionage of the Metal Gear Solid series can be used again.
