Intel NUC with Apollo Lake processor includes microphones for Cortana

Intel has released specifications for an upcoming NUC minicomputer, revealing that the device will include two microphones to support voice control for personal assistants like Cortana. The processor is an Apollo Lake Celeron.

Intel comes with the barebone NUC6CAYH and with the NUC6CAYS that contains 2GB of RAM, 32GB emmc flash storage and Windows 10 as standard. Both have the Intel Celeron J3455, NUCBlog noted. The processor is a quad-core of the Apollo Lake generation that contains a clock speed of 1.5 GHz with burst to 2.3 GHz. The TDP is 10W and the GPU is the HD Graphics 500.

The small computer can hold up to 8GB DDR3L in the two memory slots. The housing contains a 2.5″ SATA slot for a storage medium. The NUC contains two USB 3.0 ports on the front and two on the back. In addition, there is an HDMI 2.0 port with support for HDMI CEC and infrared , for TV remote control More and more manufacturers are equipping PCs with dual-array microphones, for voice control of Windows 10’s personal assistant, Cortana.

The Apollo Lake-NUC supports gigabit ethernet, but also wifi-ac, and bluetooth 4.2, thanks to an m2 network card. It is not known when the NUC systems will be available and the prices are still unknown.
