Instagram will allow landscape and portrait photos

Instagram announced today that it will also show photos and videos in portrait and landscape modes. The photo sharing application says that some “visual stories” require a different format than the old square.

On its blog, Instagram says that about one in five photos shared through the application are not square. Instagram also realized that it was often not easy to share non-square photos and that it was not always practical to put a subject in a square.

It has therefore been possible since Thursday to choose the format when posting a photo or video by clicking on the relevant icon. After sharing a photo in full size, the photo will appear neatly between the square snaps. In addition to the update to display photos and videos in portrait or landscape, all filters can now also be used for both photo and video. The intensity of the filters can now also be adjusted for videos. The updated app will receive version number 7.5 on both iOS and Android.
