There are images of Prince of Persia Redemption on YouTube. It would be a reboot of the Prince of Persia series. The game was never announced by Ubisoft nor made. The images appear to have been online almost unnoticed since 2012.
A user from the Resetera forum noticed the images. The YouTube video has been online since 2012, but has only been viewed 150 times. That has now risen to hundreds of thousands of views, now that the video has made the news.
Although it appears to be about gameplay, the video appears to consist of pre-rendered images. It’s a pre-rendered game pitch, says animation artist Jonathan Cooper on Twitter. He now works at Naughty Dog, but was previously employed by Ubisoft. According to Cooper, Khai Nguyen was the director of the Prince of Persia images. He would later be involved in the making of For Honor.
Ubisoft has not responded to the appearance of the images. The publisher who owns the Prince of Persia rights already knew that the video was online. Two years ago, Ubisoft’s assistant technical director Marc-Andre Belleau posted the comment “where did you get this!?” under the video.
The first Prince of Persia game was released in 1989. The series was revived in 2003 with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Several new games followed, with the latest major release being Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands from 2010.
