IDC: Fitbit, Xiaomi and Apple are the largest manufacturers of wearables

Fitbit is the leader in wearables, followed by Xiaomi and Apple. That says analyst firm IDC based on its own estimates. Not a single manufacturer of recent Android Wear watches can be found in the top five.

Fitbit, maker of fitness trackers, has according to IDC owns 24 percent of the market. Xiaomi is the closest, thanks to its cheap Mi Band, and has 19 percent of the market. Apple comes to 7.5 percent thanks to its Watch. Samsung is at 3.6 percent, according to IDC. BBK, parent company of smartphone makers Oppo and OnePlus, is in fifth place, thanks to children’s smartwatches with GPS.

Compared to the market for smartphones, for example, the numbers are relatively small. Market leader Fitbit delivered 4.8 million copies of its wearables, IDC estimates. In total, this concerns about twenty million wearables worldwide.

Although Samsung once released a Wear watch in the early days of Android Wear, manufacturers of recent Android Wear watches such as Lenovo/Motorola, Huawei and Asus are missing. They probably fall into the ‘Other’ category, but individually, according to IDC, they have not supplied more than 700,000 wearables.
