Huawei has launched a public test for the next version of its Android skin, Emui 9.0, which is based on Android 9.0 Pie. Users of various smartphones can install an app to get the beta.
The beta is available for the Huawei P20, P20 Pro, Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Honor 10, Honor View 10 and Honor Play, Android Authority says. In all cases, these are smartphones with the Kirin 970-soc from Huawei’s HiSilicon chip division. The app that users need to install is called Friendly User Test. A Huawei ID is required for registration.
Emui 9.0 should make phones faster. For example, Huawei claims that apps such as Spotify and Instagram start around 11 percent faster after the upgrade. In addition, Huawei builds in a password manager of its own making. Also, the number of items in the settings menu goes down to make it more organized. In terms of interface, many elements within apps, such as tabs, have been moved down to make them more accessible.
The app can already be installed, but the betas are not yet online, so users cannot install anything for the time being. It is unknown when the stable version will be released, but at least it won’t be before mid-October; then Huawei will announce the Mate 20 smartphone with presumably Emui 9.0 on board.
