Of course, Doom runs on just about any device, but there’s a new competitor for the game-anywhere-fits-all. A hacker has created a browser version of the original Prince of Persia. It also appears to work on smartwatches.
Prince of Persia, the platformer that came out in 1989 for the Apple II, can now rightly be called a classic. For those too young to remember the game well, developer Oliver Klemenz has created PrinceJS. This is a browser version of the game, which has been completely converted to JavaScript so that it can run in almost any browser on both desktop and mobile devices.
The developer says on Twitter that the game even works on his Apple Watch. The wearable does not have its own browser, but it can open links from an email or iMessage. The web page is then rendered on the watch and that works fine with the game according to Klemenz. A user can therefore email himself a link to PrinceJS.com and open it on the watch. According to him, the controls work via touch, although they are not fluent. The game’s resolution is up to 280×192, the same as the original Prince of Persia ran on. Prince of Persia is also running on other smartwatches† Now we have to wait until the game can also run on Ikea lamps and cash registers.
