Google will require new Android developers to test apps first

Google will now require new developers of Android apps to test them before they are eligible for publication in the Google Play Store. The app must be tested by twenty users for at least two weeks, Google writes.

The change will take effect from November 13 and will apply to Play Console accounts created after that date. It will no longer be optional for new developers to use Google’s testing tools before submitting an application for publication. Google states that developers can use this to fix crashes and bugs, and collect some user feedback before release. In this way, the user experience is increased and the chance of negative reviews is reduced, according to Google. Existing developers are not yet required to test their applications first.

In addition, Google wants to invest more time in assessing applications before they are allowed in the Google Play Store. writes TechCrunch. Google wants to be able to better assess whether apps comply with the guidelines and do not mislead or deceive users, both inside and outside the Play Store. Google states that this may take longer to review ‘a small number’ of apps. This would mainly concern apps that are aimed at children or require certain permissions.
