Google will close its Play Music service permanently at the end of 2020. As of December, the service has been completely replaced by YouTube Music. Google is turning off the ability to stream via Play Music from October for all users.

From October it is no longer possible to listen to music via Play Music, but users can still access the service, Google writes. For example, users can still view their playlists, uploads, purchases and likes and transfer them to YouTube Music. That is possible until December; after that, the content on Google Play Music will no longer be available.

Users will no longer be able to make Music Manager purchases from Google Play Music from the end of August. It is also no longer possible to upload music via the same method from then on.

Google promises that all users will be clearly informed before they lose access to their data on Play Music. Earlier this year, Google already released a tool for users to migrate their data from Play Music to YouTube Music. In Android 10, Google has already replaced the Play Music app with YouTube Music.
