“Google Pixel 6a gets Tensor soc and primary camera sensor from older Pixels”

The upcoming Google Pixel 6a may get the same Tensor soc as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. 9to5Google reports this based on its own information. The phone would also get the same primary 12.2-megapixel camera that has been used in Google smartphones since the Pixel 3.

The APK Insight team at 9to5Google said they found the information in the Google Camera app. The website reports that the upcoming Google Pixel 6a will use a Sony IMX363 sensor for the primary camera. This 12.2-megapixel sensor was used in all Google Pixel smartphones from the Pixel 3 to the Pixel 5a. With the current Google Pixel 6 series, the company switched to the Samsung GN1 sensor, which has a 50-megapixel resolution. The GN1 is also physically larger than the IMX363, and therefore captures more light.

9to5Google does report that the ultra-wide-angle camera uses a Sony IMX386 sensor. That same sensor is used behind the ultra-wide angle lens of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The Tensor soc, which Google has designed for its Pixel 6 series, will also be used in the cheaper Pixel 6a. It was previously speculated that the Pixel 6a might come with a Tensor Lite or a Snapdragon soc from Qualcomm, but this doesn’t seem to be the case.

Renders of the Google Pixel 6a appeared last week. The phone is similar in design to the higher-ranking Pixel 6 models, but gets a smaller 6.2″ AMOLED screen. It would also be the first Pixel phone in the a-series without a 3.5mm jack. unknown when the Google Pixel 6a will be released or what it will cost.
