Google has confirmed that it is working on support for Chrome dark mode on Windows. Until then, the development team will redirect users to dark themes for the browser.

A developer from the Chromium team confirms the arrival of dark mode on Reddit. “Dark mode support is in development for the desktop. In the meantime, we advise people to use a dark theme,” said senior Chrome developer Peter Kasting.

Kasting was the one who in a May 2018 bug report pointed out that Chrome should take advantage of Windows 10’s option to use a light or dark mode for apps. The fastest way, he said, was to use Chrome’s incognito display for dark mode.

Windows 10 has offered the option for a dark display of apps since 2016. Edge and Firefox, among others, already offer the option. In early December, indications appeared that the dark mode of Chrome for macOS 10.14 Mojave is on the way. It will likely appear as part of Chrome 73 early this year.
