Google has started rolling out 1080p video streams in Google Meet. For now, the feature is only being released for the web version of the video conferencing service. Additionally, the quality upgrade is only available to select Workspace and Google One subscribers.

By default, the resolution is still set to 720p, but users who qualify for the upgrade will see a message informing them that they can increase their image quality. This is only possible for users with webcams that support the higher image quality, and if there is ‘sufficient computing power’. In addition warns Google that sufficient bandwidth must be available for this function. If the device’s bandwidth is ‘limited’, the resolution will be automatically scaled down.

The feature is available to Google Workspace users with one of the following plans: Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Education Plus, Enterprise Essentials, and Frontline. In addition, the 1080p upgrade is also available to Google One subscribers who have at least 2TB of storage. The feature is not available for personal Google accounts.
