Foxconn has 200,000 employees work entirely on iPhone production lines in Zhengzhou, China, and now produces 140,000 iPhone 6 Plus and 400,000 iPhone 6 units daily, The Wall Street Journal claims.

The daily production of 540,000 iPhones would be the largest production of iPhones at Foxconn, aka Hon Hai, to date, but an insider tells The Wall Street Journal that it is not enough to meet the high number of pre-orders . On Monday, Apple announced that it received four million pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus within 24 hours last Friday. The message from the WSJ is another indication that buyers should be aware of long delivery times.

The iPhone 6 Plus, in particular, appears to be experiencing significant delays as there is a shortage of 5.5″ displays for the device. According to the WSJ source, 50 to 60 percent of panel production is for the 5.5″ display. usable, against 85 percent for the 4.7″ screen. Production would be difficult because of the in-cell touch technology. The larger the screen, the more difficult it is to make well-functioning panels, with touch functionality mainly along the edge would become less. With in-cell touch, the sensor layer is no longer placed on the LCD TFT, but integrated.Apple has been using this technique since the iPhone 5, as have other manufacturers.
