Apple recently released version 8 of iOS, but it didn’t seem to work for everyone. A hastily released update only made matters worse for some and was quickly pulled back. Now update 8.0.2 has been released and this should smooth out all the folds.

Apple’s iOS is the operating system for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Version 8 can only be installed on iPhone 4s, iPad 2, and sixth generation iPod touch or later and includes a large collection of improvements. For example, there is support for virtual keyboards from third parties such as Swype and Swiftkey, there is a Health app, the OS supports Family Sharing and the new iCloud Drive can be activated. There are also improvements to notifications and Spotlight and changes have been made, especially under the hood, that give developers more options. More information can be found on our front page and in the background article iOS 8 Review – Apple relinquishes the reins.

This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including:

  • Fixes an issue in iOS 8.0.1 that impacted cellular network connectivity and Touch ID on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
  • Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
  • Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
  • Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
  • Better support or Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
  • Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
  • Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari
