Download Driver For ATi Catalyst 3.2

Since yesterday, all owners of a video card based on an ATi Radeon chip can get the latest version of the Catalyst driver pack. In addition to the drivers in their brand new version 7.84, the package also includes the ATi Multimedia Center version 8.1, HydraVision number 3.2 and Remote Wonder 1.4. All in all, this package has been given version number 3.2. Upgrading is definitely worth it, according to ATi, not least because of a number of significant performance improvements:

• CATALYST™ 3.2 corrects a problem with 2D applications running in the background that can cause a momentary reduction in framerate (ie”stuttering”) in fullscreen Direct3D and OpenGL games. Specific instances of “stuttering” have also been addressed (eg Rallisport Challenge when the sun enters or exits the scene).
• Dungeon Siege framerates are improved as much as 24% across multiple products, especially when running at higher resolutions.
• Frame buffer read-back performance has improved dramatically (500% or more) in CATALYST™3.2. This feature allows an application to retrieve a fully rendered frame from the graphics adapter and manipulate it or store it in the system RAM or on the hard disk.
• Vertex Shader performance has improved dramatically (as much as 100% in some situations) for our DX8.1-class products such as RADEON™ 8500, 9000 and 9100. This brings significant gains to Vertex Shader intensive scenes such as the Battle of Proxycon and the Troll’s Lair (both up 15-25% on RADEON™ 9000 PRO).

[break]Of course, performance improvement is not the only thing we find in the new version. RealOne Player, Nascar 2003, Combat Flight Simulator 3, Myth 3, 3D Winbench v1.1, and Harry Potter II are all getting better with this update. In addition, a lot of bugs have been fixed. However, version 3.2 is not completely bug-free yet. Under ‘Known Issues’ we also find minor issues with 3DMark’03, Sim City 4 and Star Wars Jedi Knight 2. These problems will undoubtedly be solved in the next version. For now, Windows 2k/XP . users can with this and Windows 98/ME users with this brave the perpetual graphic digital storms decently.
