Driver Update: AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.1 Hotfix

AMD has released a new version of Radeon Software Crimson Edition, as the drivers are called today. The drivers are only suitable for the HD 7750 and higher, the HD 8570 and higher, and of course the cards from the R5, R7 and R9 series. As for Windows, only versions 7, 8.1 and 10 are supported. For older cards, labeled as legacy, the latest drivers are version 15.7.1. There is, however, a beta release of Radeon Software for the older cards availablebut it’s unclear if it will ever leave beta.

Radeon Software includes a completely redesigned user interface, written in Qt and no longer in .NET, which makes it a lot faster, among other things. There is also support for LiquidVR technology and improved Freesync support. Also, frame pacing, low frame rate compensation and the use of custom resolutions and virtual super resolution have been improved. For apus, the new driver improves the video display. Finally, the loading time of games has been improved and GPUs use less energy. The following bug fixes have also been made in this update:

  • [81448]/[77961] A system restart may be experience when waking the system from sleep mode on some systems with Intel processors
  • [81651] Star Wars: Battlefront – Texture corruption may be experienced if the game “Field of View” setting is > 100
  • [82213] Star Wars: Battlefront – Some users may experience minor flickering or corruption at different game location or while viewing the in-game cinematics
  • [81915] Assassin’s Creed Syndicate – Building textures may be missing on some AMD Freesync displays with VSync enabled
  • [82387] Assassin’s Creed Syndicate – The game may crash if the Gaming Evolved “In Game Overlay” is enabled. A temporary workaround is to disable the AMD Gaming Evolved “In Game Overlay”

  • [82499] Talos Principle – A crash may occur while changing Gaming Evolved Video settings or pressing ALT + Enter when “In Game Overlay” is enabled
