CyanogenMod Gets SDK for OS Expansion

The makers of the popular custom Android software CyanogenMod are planning to release an SDK that allows developers to modify or add components to the operating system themselves. First, an api has been made available to customize the quicksettings menu.

The arrival of the SDK was discovered by Android Police, who saw that Cyanogen posted code online. Also, a Google+ page called Cyanogen Platform SDK has been put online, as well as a Wiki page. The company itself has not released much information yet. There is already an example of what will become possible with the SDK: there is an adjustable quicksettings menu where developers can set their own toggles.

Cyanogen probably wants to use the SDK to ensure that developers get more options on the alternative Android operating system. The development kit must ensure that applications are developed that cannot be made with the standard Android development tools. CyanogenMod is already known for its many tweaks and capabilities over the stock version of Android.

Cyanogen recently released version 12.1 of its Android OS. This version is based on Android 5.1, but otherwise the software contains no major changes compared to version 12.0.
