Bose chief executive officer Phil Hess has resigned after two years. Chief financial officer Jim Scammon has taken over as chief operating officer of the company. The company does not appear to have a new CEO yet.

Bose has not announced Hess’ departure, but the company has confirmed the news to CNET. “There has been a ‘leadership change’ at Bose. Phil Hess left in January.” Until recently, Hess was still listed as CEO of the company on Bose’s website, although the webpage has since been taken offline. In January, the company already announced that it would close all its own stores in Europe and the US, among others. In total, this involved 119 stores. In its own words, the company did this because there is more online shopping. The company did not mention that Phil Hess also resigned around that time.

Jim Scammon, who previously served as Bose’s CFO, has taken over some of Hess’ duties. For example, Scammon is the new corporate president of the company and has assumed the position of chief operating officer. In many US companies, the president is the operations manager, but the position may overlap with that of CEO. Former Bose CEO Bob Maresca is “working closely with Scammon,” Bose said.

The Bose Earbuds 500

The company gives no reason for Hess’s departure. Bose is a private company, so it does not have to publish financial figures. Bose also recently delayed the release of its wireless Earbuds 500 earbuds due to a “delayed development period.” The company reports to CNET that this delay has been exacerbated by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
