ASML announced on Monday that there has been a fire at a factory in Berlin, which produces components for lithography machines. The company says that the damage and the impact on production are as yet unclear.
ASML reports in a statement that the fire took place in the night from Sunday to Monday. The fire was extinguished overnight and no people were injured. The fire took place at ASML Berlin, in a factory previously owned by Berliner Glas Group, which was acquired by ASML in 2020. The factory produces parts for ASML’s lithography systems, the company reports. Among other things, trays for wafers are made in the Berlin production facility, in addition to other components such as reticle chucks and mirror blocks.
It is not yet known what impact the fire will have on the production of lithography machines, which the company supplies to chip manufacturers. “At this point, it is too early to make a statement about damage or whether the incident will affect this year’s production plan,” ASML writes in its statement. The company said it will take several days to conduct an investigation and assess any damage. ASML indicates that it will come up with more information at a later date.
