Apple is adding new GPU options to its Mac Pro models. It concerns Radeon Pro W6000X GPUs from AMD, based on the RDNA 2 architecture. A single W6800X GPU costs 2760 euros and for the new W6900X Apple asks 6440 euros.

Apple offers three variants of the Radeon Pro W6000X GPUs and places them in MPX modules, the so-called Mac Pro Expansion modules. There is a choice of the W6800X, the W6900X and the W6800X Duo . The latter consists of two GPUs on one printed circuit board. All options can also be placed twice. In the case of the W6800X Duo, this results in a configuration with four GPUs. The GPUs are equipped with 32GB GDDR6 each.

AMD has not released the Radeon Pro W6000X GPUs as separate video cards itself. Earlier this year, the manufacturer introduced the Radeon Pro W6800 and W6600, but the variants that Apple uses are positioned higher. Apple is also making the new video cards available as standalone MPX modules so Mac Pro users can upgrade their system.

The additional prices are in addition to the starting price of 6449 euros for the base model of the Mac Pro in the Tower version and 7199 euros for the Rack model. By default, the Mac Pros come with a Radeon Pro 580X. At the release in 2019 , Radeon Pro Vega II GPUs were available for an additional cost and later Radeon Pro W5000X GPUs were also added as an option.
