Apple posted record revenue of more than $123.9 billion in its fiscal first quarter. The company reports that it was experiencing delivery issues, especially with the iPads, but the company expects the overall situation of parts shortages to improve.

The main contributor to the record sales came from iPhone sales. In the past quarter, sales amounted to USD 71.6 billion, compared to USD 65.6 billion in the same period a year ago. That is an increase of 9 percent.

It’s no surprise that it was a good quarter for iPhone sales, as the past period has seen some holiday seasons and it was the first full quarter of iPhone 13 lineup availability. As usual, Apple does not provide sales numbers or specific details per model.

Another important growth engine is services; revenue in the category rose from $15.8 billion to $19.5 billion. Mac sales also rose, reaching $10.9 billion, up from $8.7 billion a year ago.

The only category where a drop in sales is visible are the iPads. The turnover from the sale of these tablets amounted to 7.2 billion dollars, compared to 8.4 billion dollars in the same period a year ago. That is a decrease of 14 percent. Apple previously indicated that delivery problems in this category were relatively high, which, according to the company, were greater for this category than during the September quarter.

In an oral explanation of the quarterly figures, CEO Tim Cook said that the challenges in the form of the delivery problems with the iPads are mainly at the level of legacy nodes. According to Cook, his iPads business is much more dependent on suppliers. This is not so much about the high-quality M1 processors, but more about chips that, for example, control the screens or are responsible for the connection to a transmission tower. The CEO expects this situation of the legacy nodes to improve for the coming quarter.

In total, Apple booked a record turnover of 123.9 billion dollars, compared to 95.7 billion dollars a year ago. The company also performed well in terms of profit. It rose from $28.8 billion to $34.6 billion.
