Pokémon GO has grossed nearly $ 4.2 billion in total, according to analyst firm SensorTower. This year, players have already spent a billion dollars after ten months. That makes 2020 the game’s most successful year to date.

Pokémon GO has been around since July 2016 and was particularly popular around the world at the beginning, but according to SensorTower, revenues from the game are still increasing. Developer Niantic is said to have brought in more than a billion dollars in the first ten months of this year.

Revenues fell after the first year, but after Niantic added several features, it grew again. In recent years, the developer has added raids and a pvp function, among other things. New Pokémon also become available to collect regularly.

It seems striking that players are spending more on the mobile game this year. Pokémon GO is intended as a game to play outside, while people are more indoors due to corona measures. However, Niantic has made changes that give players more options at home. This makes it possible to do remote raids. Players can buy remote raid passes for that.

According to SensorTower, there are nearly 600 million unique installations of Pokémon GO worldwide. The countries where players spend the most money on the game are the United States, Japan and Germany. $ 2.2 billion of sales would have been made through the Google Play Store and $ 1.9 billion through the Apple App Store. There are mobile games that generate even more sales. Pokémon GO is in third place this year, according to SensorTower. PUBG Mobile is in first place, followed by Honor of Kings.

Country Revenue Percentage of total sales
United States $ 1.5 billion 36.3
Japan $ 1.3 billion 31.3
Germany $ 238.6 million 5.7
