Alienware introduces ips monitor with 500Hz panel

Alienware introduces a monitor with an ips panel that has a refresh rate of 500Hz. It concerns the AW2524H. It is a screen with a diagonal of 24.5 inches and a full HD resolution. Alienware does not release this monitor in Europe.

Alienware says the AW2524H is the fastest refresh rate monitor in the world. In any case, the 500Hz is only possible through an overclock; the native refresh rate is 480Hz. Such refresh rates are only possible when using the DisplayPort 1.4 connection; via HDMI, 240Hz is the highest achievable.

Furthermore, the monitor has a stated gray-to-gray response time of 0.5ms, but in Extreme mode the gray-to-gray response time during previous measurements was 1ms in most cases. The ips panel can display 99 percent of the sRGB color space and has a DisplayHDR400 certification; that means a brightness of 400cd/m² is possible. This is the lowest DisplayHDR label awarded by VESA; the AW2524H will therefore not offer impressive performance in terms of high dynamic range. The contrast ratio is 1000:1, which is fairly normal for an IPS panel, especially one that is mainly focused on speed.

Work has been underway for some time on monitors with panels that support such relatively high refresh rates. So far there are no monitors available that go higher than 360Hz. The refresh rate of gaming screens increases a little every year. There are already quite a few 240Hz monitors and the Pricewatch currently lists a dozen screens with a refresh rate of 300Hz or 360Hz. These are all monitors with IPS panels. TN panels are becoming less popular, even if speed is an important factor, although ASUS also unveiled a 500Hz monitor last year, which is a screen based on a TN panel.

Alienware is not yet saying how much the AW2524H will cost. The monitor should appear in the first quarter of this year. As the delivery date gets closer, Alienware says it will reveal more about the price. It is already clear that this monitor will not be released in Europe.
