Following on from the partnership announced by Swedish virtual reality company Starbreeze and Acer in mid-May, the companies now report that Acer is investing $9 million in Starbreeze through convertible bonds.

This gives Starbreeze more financial scope to continue developing the StarVR headset. In the May 16 message, the two companies stated their intention to collaborate in the design, manufacture, promotion and sale of StarVR.

Starbreeze unveiled its first design at E3 in 2015. A StarVR headset has two 5.5″ screens, each with a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels. By using two separate screens, the maximum viewing angle of a StarVR can be increased. -hmd are more easily larger than hmds with only one screen. A StarVR-hmd would have a field of view of 210 degrees horizontally and 130 degrees vertically. HDMIs like HTC Vive and Oculus Rift have a field of view of 110 degrees.
