The company A-data has announced two SSDs that can be plugged into an msata socket. The XPG SX300 is equipped with a sata600 interface, while the Premier Pro SP300 is suitable for msata sockets with a sata300 interface.

According to A-data, the XPG SX300 achieves sequential read and write speeds of 550 and 505MBps respectively. With 4K writes, 85,000 iops could be achieved. The msata SSD will come on the market with storage capacities of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, with suggested retail prices of USD 90, 150 and 300 respectively.

The Premier Pro SP300 would achieve read and write speeds of 280 and 260MBps via the sata300 interface, while the maximum iops with random 4K writes would be 46,000. A-data offers the Premier Pro series msata SSDs with storage capacities of 24GB, 32GB and 64GB, and prices of 50, 60 and 80 dollars respectively.

Both SSDs are controlled by a SandForce controller and support the trim function. According to A-data, the firmware used does not over-provision, which means that on average 7 percent more storage capacity is available than other SSDs with a SandForce controller. It is not yet known whether and when the SSDs will be available in Europe.
