Xiaomi introduces 14 series phones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and HyperOS

Xiaomi has announced its 14 and 14 Pro phones for the Chinese market. The smartphones will include a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. They are also the first phones to use Xiaomi HyperOS, which should eventually replace the existing MIUI.

The Xiaomi 14 has a 6.36″ AMOLED screen with a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz. According to the manufacturer, the screen has a peak brightness of up to 3000cd/m² and supports Dolby Vision. The Xiaomi 14 also gets a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, which Qualcomm announced earlier this week The phone will come with up to 16GB of Lpddr6x memory and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Furthermore, the Xiaomi 14 will have a 4610mAh battery with support for 90W fast charging. Wireless charging is possible with a maximum power of 50W, the manufacturer says. The phone can also charge other devices wirelessly by placing those devices on the back of the device. This works with a maximum of 10W. There are three camera sensors on the back of the device. The primary camera has a 50-megapixel sensor with optical image stabilization. The ultra-wide-angle and telephoto cameras also both have a resolution of 50 megapixels. There is a 32-megapixel selfie camera on the front of the device.

The Xiaomi 14 phone will initially only be released in China. The cheapest model with 8GB memory and 256GB storage costs 3999 yuan, which converts to 518 euros. The most expensive model with 16GB memory and 1TB storage costs 651 euros. Xiaomi says nothing about international availability and does not mention official euro prices. The Chinese brand previously released the 13 series later in the Benelux.

Xiaomi 14 Pro with larger screen and 120W fast charging

The Xiaomi 14 Pro, in turn, has a 6.73″ AMOLED screen, also with a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz. This time the screen has a slight curve on all four edges. The glass of the phone is also equipped with ‘Xiaomi Ceramic Glass This should ensure that the glass of the screen breaks and scratches less quickly.

The primary camera of the Xiaomi 14 Pro also has a variable aperture from f/1.42 to f/4.0. The 4880mAh battery can be charged with a power of up to 120W. The wireless charging power remains unchanged compared to the regular 14 phone, at 50W. The Pro variant also gets a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, a maximum of 16GB memory and up to 1TB storage.

Xiaomi will also first release the 14 Pro phone in China. A model with 12GB memory and 256GB storage costs 4999 yuan, which amounts to 651 euros. The most expensive 16GB/1TB variant costs 778 euros, or 844 euros with a titanium housing.

Xiaomi HyperOS

Xiaomi’s 14 and 14 Pro are also the first phones to have HyperOS, which was previously announced. This should replace the current MIUI skin of the Chinese tech company. HyperOS will eventually come to other Xiaomi smartphones, but should also appear later for wearables, cars, smart home equipment and other devices from the company. The manufacturer calls HyperOS a fusion of its own Vela system and ‘Linux’, by which it refers to Android. The company shares few concrete details about the operating system in a press release. The first version of HyperOS will be based on Android 14.
