X, formerly Twitter, has started rolling out audio and video calling in its iOS app. To do this, users must start a private conversation with a user, after which they can call or video call that person.

The function does not seem to be available to every user yet, but among others The Verge writes received this Thursday. In the X settings, users can enable or disable the ability to receive audio and video calls. They can also choose to receive calls only from users they follow, only from users in their address book, or only from verified users. The option to receive calls via X is enabled by default.

In a private conversation, users can choose to start an audio or video call, demonstrates X user @krassenstein. To do this, they must click on the telephone icon at the top right and then choose between an audio and a video call. According to Elon Musk This concerns an ‘early version’ of the function.

It is unclear how widespread the feature is. On the X help page the social media platform states that the function will initially only be available on iOS and will later also be available on Android. In addition, X says that only Premium subscribers can start an audio and video call, but that non-subscribers can also receive a call. X-CEO Linda Yaccarino previously announced that this position was being worked on.
