WinFuture: Microsoft Surface Pro 9 Gets Intel Alder Lake and Qualcomm CPUs

Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Pro 9 will be available with an Alder Lake CPU from Intel or with a Snapdragon soc from Qualcomm. This makes three configurations of the laptop available.

WinFuture says it has information about the upcoming Surface Pro 9. The site writes that the tablet only comes with Intel socs and not with an AMD soc. Specifically, it concerns the i5-1235U or the i7-1255U, the company’s Alder Lake architecture. Those socs have eight cores and twelve threads with a maximum clock speed of 4.4GHz and 4.7GHz. The soc also has an integrated Iris Xe GPU at 1.2GHz for the i5 and 1.25GHz for the i7.

In addition, the Surface Pro 9 will be optionally available with the Microsoft SQ3. That is a soc based on the third generation Snapdragon 8cx series. According to maker Qualcomm, that Arm-soc should be 85 percent faster than the previous Gen 2 CPU that was in the previous Surface Pro X. WinFuture says the future Surface Laptop 5 will only ship with the two Intel processors, but there is no information about a possible Arm version.

WinFuture also sees similarities with the Surface Pro 8. The Pro 9 gets the same 13.5-inch PixelSense display and has up to 16GB of memory and up to a terabyte of PCIe NVMe storage. WinFuture says it has found listings of the tablets. This would show that the cheapest configuration of the Surface Pro 9 would cost 1,300 euros. The Surface Laptop 5 would cost 1200 euros for the variant with the 13.5 “display, or 1500 for the variant with 15”.
