Windows update causes BSOD when using different network printers

Several users of Kyocera, Ricoh and Zebra network printers are seeing a BSOD after installing a Windows update. New cumulative updates in Windows 10 cause such a blue screen of death, users say on Reddit, among others.

Users are complaining on Reddit that they are having problems on Windows 10, especially when trying to print something from a network printer. They will then see a BSOD on Windows 20H2 when a print job is sent to a Windows Server printer. The problems occur with printers from Kyocera, Ricoh and Zebra, among others. Updating the printer drivers does not seem to work.

The issues appear to have started after installing KB5000802, a security update that was rolled out earlier this week. That update fixed two vulnerabilities in the Windows print feature, CVE-2021-1640 and CVE-2021-26878. The update seems to break win32kfull.sys. That happens on Windows 20H2, the October Update. Also on Windows 1909 problems seem to arise in some cases. For that OS, KB5000808 was released this week.
