WhatsApp is testing disappearing voice messages. This allows users to send a voice message that deletes itself after the recipient has listened to it. The chat service previously introduced a similar function for photos and videos.

The disappearing voice messages feature is currently being tested in WhatsApp beta versions for Android and iOS, reports WABetaInfo. On Android the feature was added to beta 2.23.22.4, while on iOS the feature can be found in TestFlight version 23.21.1.73.

This gives users a sort of ‘view once’ option when recording and sending a voice message. This means that the message can only be listened to once before it is permanently deleted. The voice messages in question also cannot be saved, forwarded or exported from WhatsApp.

It is not known if and when WhatsApp will make the feature available to all users. The platform previously released a similar ‘view once’ mode for photos and videos. Since 2020, it is also possible to send text messages that are automatically deleted after a certain time limit has passed, such as a day or a week.
