Microsoft is adding the ability to share Wi-Fi passwords via QR codes in Windows 11 preview build 25977 of the Canary Channel. The same update also made it possible to pair hearing aids with Windows PCs via Bluetooth Low Energy.

In the preview update it is possible to generate a QR code in the WiFi settings of Windows 11 with the login details of the WiFi network. When users scan that code, they are automatically logged in and do not have to enter the password manually. This also works for mobile hotspots, Microsoft says. Android phones have had this method of sharing Wi-Fi passwords for some time.

Furthermore, build 25977 adds support for hearing aids with the Bluetooth Low Energy audio codec. After the update, they can be directly connected to Windows 11 PCs, after which audio from the PC can be heard through the hearing aid. These devices must support Bluetooth LE. Currently, a limited number of devices still support this codec, although according to Microsoft the number of PCs will be expanded in the coming months. More hearing aid features will also be added later, such as the ability to manage audio presets through Windows settings.

In addition, the update comes with a new privacy feature. When an application tries to access the user’s location or Wi-Fi information for the first time, a pop-up appears asking permission. In the Windows 11 settings page ‘Privacy & security > Location’ it is possible to disable these notifications.
