WhatsApp gets adjustable backgrounds with dark mode support for each chat

WhatsApp users are given the option to set a different background for each chat. Users can also set a wallpaper that will be shown when dark mode is enabled on the phone.

By setting a different background for each chat, users should be able to distinguish between different conversations more easily. It was already possible to change the background of the app, but not for individual chats.

WhatsApp will add more color variations of existing backgrounds and expand the choice of images. The app also gets an option to set two backgrounds; one for daytime use and one for when dark mode is on.

WhatsApp also wants to make it easier to find stickers. Creators must tag their sticker with an emoji so that users can search for it. The changes are rolling out to WhatsApp for Android and iOS, and the updated apps should be released this week.
