Twitter has started offering live videos in 360 degrees. Some users can already record the videos, while all twitterers can see the videos. Facebook recently started offering the same functionality.
The first live video in 360 degrees was Alex Pettitt’s video of a sunset in the US state of Florida. The function works via Periscope, Twitter’s video service. Recording live video in 360 degrees requires equipment that supports live transmission of 360 degrees images. Until now, Periscope offered the ability to broadcast regular videos live, usually through a phone’s camera.
Twitter’s move comes a few weeks after Facebook started supporting the same feature. Users can watch the videos on a computer in the browser and control them with the mouse. On a smartphone, they can drag a finger over the video or rotate the phone.
Twitter is testing the feature with a limited number of users. If you want to put live videos in 360 degrees on Twitter, you can sign up for the beta.
