Twitch streams will be given more specific labels to indicate sex and violence

Streams on Twitch will receive more labels from Wednesday to indicate explicit content. Where until now there was only a ‘Mature’ label, there will now be separate labels for games for adults, continuous swearing, focus on sex, violence and gambling.

Twitch wants the labels to provide a safer community for younger users, says the company. Streamers must insert the labels themselves. Viewers can make suggestions if they think streamers have forgotten a label. A human moderator from Twitch will then check whether this is correct.

The maximum penalty for not applying a label is that Twitch will automatically apply the label to all streams from that account for a period of several days or weeks. Account suspensions for unlabeling streams or sharing streams will not happen.

When streamers play a game with an M rating, which stands for Mature, the label is automatically attached. All other labels can only be added manually. The labels are available immediately. Labels do not have to remain for an entire stream: streamers can add or remove a label per part of a stream.
