Cloud communications company Twilio is laying off 11 percent of its employees. The company itself has announced this. It is believed to be between 800 and 900 employees. The company has no offices in the Benelux.

The layoffs are worldwide CEO Jeff Lawson announced. There are European offices in Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Sweden, among others. It is unknown what the ratio of the layoffs is.

According to the director, the dismissal round is necessary because Twilio has grown too quickly in recent years. As a result, there are now too many employees and it is necessary to do fewer different things with the company. The company notified the affected employees via email within an hour of the announcement. According to Lawson, too many people would have had to wait too long if managers had to do all the conversations in person.

Twilio was founded in 2008 and specializes in cloud communication services. One of the best-known consumer services is Authy, which the company acquired years ago and rivals Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator for two-step authentication.
